Cropland Rental Rates Inch Higher According to New NASS Data
How much does it cost to rent cropland this year? According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), the average price is $141 per acre. That's $2 higher than last year, and up $7 from five years ago.
A map compiled by NASS gives you an idea of where the steeper cash rents are occurring. The states in shades of darker blue represents higher prices, which include California, Hawaii and Arizona.
In California, it works out to $331 per acre. Iowa, coming in at $233 per acre and Illinois at $227 per acre. The states with the smallest increases include the southern Plains, as well as Montana and Wyoming.
