Spray Less. Save More. Conquer the Battle on Herbicide Resistance

(Sponsored Content)

Efficiency is everything in agriculture. And thanks to John Deere’s newly released See & SprayTM Ultimate, growers can spray less and gain cost efficiency—conquering the battle against herbicide resistance.

See & Spray Ultimate can deliver more than two-thirds of spray volume reduction* resulting in significantly lower herbicide costs, fewer tendering stops and giving growers the potential to spray more acres in a single day. Through John Deere Operations CenterTM monitoring capabilities, farmers can track job quality and savings and improve field management decisions with assistance from weed pressure maps.

Seeing is Believing

In field demonstrations in Bondurant, Iowa, and Roanoke, Illinois, in June 2022, farmers witnessed John Deere’s targeted spray technology at work in the See & Spray Ultimate.

Fulda, Minnesota, grower Austin Williams had this to say, “In our operation, we must make multiple passes post-emerge, using different chemicals with contrasting modes of action. With the split (tank) system, we can now apply two different products. That allows us to reduce our overall chemical usage.”

With enhanced boom stability through its carbon fiber truss-style boom, See & Spray Ultimate offers Bestin-Class boom height control. At the same time, machine learning identifies weeds among the crop to spray only the areas with weeds, maintaining a hit rate comparable to broadcast.

Even amid extreme wind conditions during the Iowa field demonstrations, the See & Spray Ultimate lived up to its expectation.

“Walking through the field today, we saw that it identified the weeds,” Williams said. “See & Spray Ultimate is applying where it needs to, and it’s not applying where it doesn’t need to. It’s very evident the system is here to help reduce chemical usage, and I’m happy to share with all my neighbors and farmers in the area how the See & Spray Ultimate system is helping reduce input costs.”

Combat Chemical Resistance

See & Spray Ultimate differentiates a plant from a weed using green-on green technology. Its dual-product solution system uses two independent tank mixes in one pass, avoiding antagonism in more complex tank mixes and helping you combat herbicide resistance.

Adding another tool to the management toolbox is key for growers as weed resistance becomes more prevalent.

“Residual chemistries are a big part of our operation,” said Hodel. “[With the See & Spray Ultimate from John Deere], you could have the residual pass done at the same time as the contact pass, and basically, you could kill two birds with one stone, cutting your rates on the contact application.”

Hodel, a non-GMO grower, said weed control is critical for him.

“Any tool we have that gives us the ability to do a better job on weed control is a big factor for us,” Hodel said. “Anytime we can kill weeds that are present and not spray the whole field, that’s a no-brainer.”

John Deere See & Spray Ultimate. Innovation that grows

* Results based on internal John Deere strip trials in corn, soybeans, and cotton in Iowa, Mississippi, Texas, and Illinois, in typical growing conditions, with varying weed size, crop canopy, and field conditions, using targeted spray of non-residual herbicide only, and using current software/algorithm at time of trials. Results vary based on crop. Individual results will vary
