The Saturday Jan. 9 auction of 103 acres just west of Mount Carroll in Carroll Co., Illinois saw the ground sell for $14,400 an acre. The land featured 102 tillable acres and carried a soil PI of 138.7 with 147 equal to maximum.
There were 33 registered bidders with a crowd of more than 100 on hand. The buyer was the adjoining farmer. The land sent to auction despite several attempts to buy the ground privately ahead of the auction. The auction price exceeded unsolicited private bids by nearly $2,000 an acre.
