Iconic Cornfield Comes to Life for First-Ever ‘Field of Dreams’ MLB Game

If you build it, they will come. And by “they,” we mean 8,000 Major League Baseball (MLB) fans.

The iconic cornfield in Iowa will come to life Thursday, August 12, as two MLB teams prepare to face-off at the “Field of Dreams” in Dyersville, Iowa.

Postponed by a year due to the pandemic, the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees are set to play the first-ever MLB regular season game at the “Field of Dreams,” surrounded by the magical backdrop of green corn fields.

As the two teams are on deck for the historic sporting event, both unveiled the throwback uniforms they will wear during Thursday’s game. The MLB photos displayed lush green cornfields as the backdrop, once again, a tribute to what Fox Sports is calling “a magical night of television.”

It’s not just corn surrounding the stadium that will be a part of Thursday’s game. The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is an official partner of the featured game.

“This is a first-in-a-lifetime event to see two professional sports teams from two of America’s biggest cities play a game in a field of corn,” said NCGA President John Linder, a corn farmer from Ohio. “This creates a unique opportunity to tell the story of the American corn farmer to the American public in a creative and highly entertaining way.”

The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. Central, Thursday, as fans will fill an 8,000-seat stadium created for the event. It’ll be nationally televised on Fox. The network says it’s created special graphics to accompany the special game, along with aerial production drones to help provide intimate angles and insight for the setting.

Baseball, hot dogs, cornfields and a tribute to history. It doesn’t get much more Americana than that.
