USDA issued its fifth Crop Progress report for the 2024 planting season today. Both crops (corn and soybeans) are now a handful of percentage points ahead of the five year average for planting progress.
Three states - North Dakota (6% planted), Ohio (6%), and Pennsylvania (2%) planted the first respective acres of corn in the past week. Ohio also got on the scoreboard in soybeans with 7% planted since April 22.
So far, 12 states out of the 18 total reporting acres of corn planted are ahead of the five year average.
Corn progress quick facts:
- Iowa went from 13% to 39% planted since April 22.
- Texas (71%), North Carolina (70%), and Missouri (63%) currently lead the planting progress pack.
Meanwhile, Mississippi soybean farmers were busy as bees this past week: the state added 24 percentage points, nearly doubling its total planted to 52%. That’s 17% ahead of its five-year average.
Fifteen of the 18 states reporting planted acres of soybeans are currently ahead of the five year average.
Soybean planting quick facts:
- North Dakota has yet to report any soybean planting acreage. Ohio (7%) and South Dakota (4%) added acres after starting from scratch.
- Arkansas (56%), Mississippi (52%), and Louisiana (49%) are reporting the most acres in the ground currently.
Here are a handful of #plant24 updates from X
We’ve only put on 2 tanks of pre plant NH3 here, and basically no planting has happened in the area. After 0.9” today tile is running full again. #plant24 is taking a long time getting here. pic.twitter.com/fi6GoFxyHX
