Protect your field from yield-robbing weeds with a strong postemergence herbicide program

Postemergence residual solutions such as Enversa herbicide offer enhanced results and better returns potential

Farmers know the growing season is busy from start to finish. Tight timelines and rising input costs could pressure farmers to cut corners with their crop protection decisions. Limiting herbicide costs may seem more economical initially, but the long-term risk outweighs the short-term reward.

“Reducing costs doesn’t always equal reducing upfront expenses,” said Scott Pringnitz, market development specialist with Corteva Agriscience. “I encourage farmers to not take a short-sighted view to managing their expenses but to also consider the longer-term risks. It could pay dividends.”

The cost of a herbicide program doesn’t just mean what shows up on the receipt. It shows up in the field with greater yield potential at harvest. Choosing a cheaper postemergence herbicide rather than a residual solution impacts yield potential, application costs and resistant weed populations.

The impact on yield

When farmers invest in a postemergence residual herbicide, they’re safeguarding their yield potential. Harmful weeds rob crops of essential resources all season long. If weeds are left unchecked, farmers are losing ground their crop won’t get back.

A postemergence solution such as Enversa™ herbicide provides soybean farmers with residual for up to four weeks to help manage more than 20 notorious broadleaf and grass weeds, eliminating weed competition during key growth periods and improving productivity for higher yield potential.

“Enversa herbicide features encapsulated acetochlor, a Group 15 active ingredient, to deliver a long-lasting residual and improved weed control,” Pringnitz said. “The encapsulation of the acetochlor allows the solution to roll off the plant tissue and drive to the soil. In doing that, the herbicide reduces crop response, which promotes a healthier, more productive crop.”

Fewer passes = reduced application time and costs

Residual postemergence herbicides don’t just improve yield potential. They also help streamline operations during an already hectic season. Every rescue pass takes up time farmers don’t have to spare and increases application expenses like labor, fuel and extra crop protection products. Because residual postemergence herbicides offer extended weed control, farmers are less likely to need late-season rescue resprays.

Tank-mixing postemergence residual solutions with other herbicides and crop protection products is another way for farmers to maximize efficiency without sacrificing effectiveness. Enversa herbicide is a flexible option that easily fits into tank-mix programs for farmers planting Enlist E3® soybeans or Enlist® cotton as it is the tank-mix partner of choice for Enlist One® herbicide. In the postemergence application, Enversa drives to the soil to provide a residual barrier against weeds that have not emerged, while Enlist One and other authorized tank-mix partners go after weeds that have already emerged.

Another tool for resistance management

Weed management challenges go beyond late-season escapes. The threat weed resistance has on long-term productivity is an issue farmers must face and overcome. It’s crucial farmers implement a program approach to weed control that includes layering residuals with multiple modes of action to mitigate the spread of resistance, reduce weed populations over time and prolong the efficacy of crop protection products.

“A program approach not only helps farmers manage their short-term risks but also reduces selection pressure and improves resistance management,” Pringnitz said. “Enversa herbicide fits into a wide range of agronomic programs to give farmers an additional tool in fighting weeds and herbicide resistance.”
