Missouri Dairy Creates Winning Tradition with Chiefs Cheese and Milk

As the Kansas City Chiefs make a return trip to the Super Bowl this weekend, one local dairy is getting in on the fun in a tasty way.

Shatto Milk Company, located just north of Kansas City in Osborn, Mo., is creating a niche with cheese curds in the Chiefs’ team colors of red and gold and milk that boasts a red color.

The red milk isn’t just for looks, it’s actually a red velvet flavor. The milk is sold in a coveted Chiefs bottle around the Kansas City area, a playoff tradition started by Shatto Milk only a few years ago.

And just in time for the Super Bowl, Shatto Milk brought back its red and gold Chiefs cheese curds. While the colorful cheese curds are available this week, Shatto Milk Company said the curds are in an extremely limited supply.

The owners of Shatto Milk Company, Leroy and Barbara Shatto, were Top Producer of the Year finalists in 2008. The two started making farm-fresh milk deliveries in 2003. Then, Shatto Milk was making deliveries to 10 retail stories in the Kansas City metro area. Today, Shatto’s flavored milk continues to sell in glass bottles, serving as a staple in grocery stores across the Kansas City area.
