USDA: Showers Mostly Too Late For Kazakhstan’s Wheat

Rain beneficial for Argentine winter grains.

USDA’s Joint Ag Weather Facility has provided the following weekly weather/crop highlights:

  • EUROPE: Hot Weather Impacts Southern Summer Crops
    - Heat returns to southern Europe, further reducing yield prospects for filling corn and sunflowers.
    - After a brief respite, showers hamper small grain and oilseed maturation and harvesting over much of northern Europe, although the rain is beneficial for reproductive summer crops.

  • MIDDLE EAST: Showers Supplement Irrigation, But Heat Continues
    - Showers supplement irrigation in western Turkey, while hot weather maintains stress on reproductive to filling cotton and corn in southeastern Turkey and northern Syria.

  • FSU: Heat Increases; Showers Are Mostly Too Late For Kazakhstan’s Wheat
    - Dry, hot weather is untimely for reproductive corn and sunflowers from Ukraine into southern Russia.
    - Heat and dryness reduce yield prospects for filling spring wheat in Russia’s Siberia District, while showers are mostly too late to reverse heat and dryness impacts on spring wheat in northern Kazakhstan.
    - Seasonably dry, hot weather benefits filling cotton in southern growing areas.

  • SOUTH ASIA: Rains Favor Rice And Soybeans; Too Dry For Groundnuts And Some Cotton
    - Locally heavy monsoon rainfall benefits rice and soybeans in eastern and central India.
    - Moisture deficits continue to mount in western India, as dry, hot conditions further reduce moisture supplies and lower yield prospects for cotton and groundnuts.

  • EAST ASIA: Tropical Cyclones Saola And Damrey Make Landfall In China
    - Tropical Cyclones Saola and Damrey make landfall in eastern China, bringing locally heavy showers to summer crops.

  • SOUTHEAST ASIA: Still Too Dry In Northeastern Thailand
    - Unseasonably dry weather continues to reduce moisture supplies for rice in northeastern Thailand.

  • AUSTRALIA: Showers Return To Western Australia
    - In Western Australia, showers boost topsoil moisture for vegetative winter grains and oilseeds.
    - Mostly sunny skies lead to net evaporative losses in southern and eastern Australia, but moisture supplies remain sufficient to aid wheat, barley, and canola development.

  • SOUTH AMERICA: Showers Develop In Central Argentina
    - Rain boosts local topsoil moisture levels for germination of Argentine winter grains.
    - Showers continue in Brazils’ southern winter wheat areas, but favorably drier conditions prevail for harvesting of sugarcane and coffee.

  • MEXICO: Seasonal Rains Taper Off From Recent Weeks
    - Showers diminish across the southern plateau corn belt as well as in the main northwestern
    watersheds.

  • CANADA: Mostly Dry Weather Returns To Ontario
    - Drier conditions renew concern for Ontario’s corn and soybeans.
    - Mostly dry, occasionally warm weather advances spring crops toward maturity across the southern Prairies.
