Fifteen years ago, John Deere introduced the original 6R Series. Since then, the lineup has undergone several upgrades and expansions – the latest of which elevates power, efficiency, comfort and high-tech features.

With four frame sizes and 15 models, the latest generation of 6R tractors can tackle a variety of applications on a crop, dairy or beef cattle operation. According to John Deere, the highlights include:

  • A selection of transmissions, including the new e19 powershift transmission for smoother shifting in demanding applications, allows operators to match the tractor to their preferred driving style and workload.
  • Powertrain enhancements deliver a smoother power, quicker operation and improved fuel efficiency in field and transport applications.
  • Intelligent Power Management automatically delivers extra horsepower when load or PTO demands increase, unlocking up to 40 additional horsepower for a maximum 305 hp on the MY27 6R 260 model.
  • The tractor’s high-capacity closed-center hydraulic system can support heavy loader work. Additionally, a new loader delivers more versatility and smarter operation, pairing increased life capacity with advanced technology such as integrated weight sensing, position awareness and optional camera views. A built-in controller also makes it easier to add options in the future, such as loader suspension, lighting, hydraulic implement, unlatch and expanded tech packages.
  • Full-frame construction provides stability and reliability, especially under heavy field loads and frequent loader work.
  • Inside the cab, the MY27 6R features a variety of comfort features, such as quiet operation coupled with improved visibility and intuitive controls.
  • Built-in connectivity and precision technology help streamline tasks and support more informed decisions.
  • Over-the-air software updates and automation features help reduce manual input and keep the tractor current.

“The 6R updates give you the flexibility and strength to handle demanding jobs without jumping to a larger tractor,” says Anne Anderson, marketing manager for the John Deere 6R line. “It is built to give you the right power with better efficiency, more ease of use and consistent performance in the right size when you need it.”

Comfort from the Outside In

When designing the updates, John Deere took into account the importance of comfort. The steps are ergonomically designed and the cab door opens wider.

Once in the seat, there’s more leg room and the new CommandArm with CommandX controls create a more spacious, intuitive operator experience with improved visibility. The cab also includes a phone holder, massaging chair, larger refrigerator and foot pegs.

Suspension and steering improvements further enhance ride quality and handling.

Anderson describes the exterior as a “big, beefy machine” while the interior feels more comfortable: “The tractor cab is really kind of their mobile office. We want to make sure that [operators] are able to tend to the rest of their day and not be sore or tired when they get out of the cab.”

6M Series Updates: Features and Technology to Scale

John Deere is also rolling out updates to the 6M series. The versatile mid-spec solution complements the premium 6R tractors and allows the flexibility to configure the machine to fit specific needs.

This updated 6M lineup brings scalable technology to the series, including integrated connectivity, precision ag capabilities and a new e19 powershift transmission. The 6M can be customized with options consistent in larger-horsepower models, such as the G5 CommandCenter display and the CommandX drive lever.

“By updating the 6M Series tractor lineup, we are ensuring we meet the needs of a diverse group of operations,” Anderson says . “With the MY27 updates, we continue to deliver power and versatility in a dependable daily tractor that can handle the jobs you give it.”
