First-of-Kind Square Baler Classifications

In an effort to better define performance capabilities to match the right baler with producers, AGCO has a new classification system for its Challenger and Hesston by Massey Ferguson small and large square balers. The baler classes, which range from Class 1 to Class 8, are determined by the plunger load rating because that’s the most measurable factor influencing bale density. Plunger load rate is measured by kilonewtons (kN) of force on the face of the plunger. It takes 224.8 lb. of force to equal 1 kN. Load sensors mounted on the baler plunger arms measure compression, providing the plunger load rating. The “load setting” number currently displayed on the in-cab monitor is derived from the plunger load. The higher the plunger force, the higher the class number. Power, Payload and Performance

New Holland and Textron Specialized Vehicles have teamed up to develop a new Rustler model of utility vehicles. The Rustler 850’s 62-hp EFI engine is coupled with on-demand all-wheel drive, electronic power steering, four-wheel double A-arm suspension and front and rear sway bars. The utility vehicle features a 2,000-lb. towing capacity, 1,000-lb. capacity tilt bed and the industry’s largest LCD display. Visit www.newholland.com.

Implement-Mounted Soil Sensors

The I Series soil sensors from Veris Technologies mount to planters and tillage tools to capture soil data. The iScan modules house infrared and red light sensors, which measure the color of the soil to determine organic matter levels. Soil texture readings are gathered by measuring the electrical conductivity of the soil. Because the electrical current travels 2' into the root zone, the readings also provide soil depth and water-holding capacity details. Visit www.veristech.com.
