The used combine market appears to be in a recalibration mode, and its across “all colors” Machinery Pete (Greg Peterson) recently told Chip Flory, the host of AgriTalk. Peterson appears on AgriTalk every Monday to share the latest news from the used farm equipment market.

“Our data is showing it’s not at this point falling as hard as it did ten years ago,” he says. “In 2014 and 2015, that was a 20% to 25% (market) drop. We’re not quite seeing that, yet. So, for example, a John Deere S 790, the last 15 months, the average auction price is $237,980. That is down 16.3%.”

Older combine models are seeing steeper depreciation of late, Peterson adds. It’s not worth sounding alarm bells at this point, but it is a trend Machinery Pete will continue monitoring.

Pete’s Pick of The Week

A 2001 John Deere 8410 tractor (pictured above) in an estate auction for Kenny Menke up in Hartley, Iowa, hosted by Vanderwerff and Associates. Pre def, 2,557 operating hours, and it went for $157,500, which Machinery Pete says is the second highest auction price his data can confirm on an 8410. And a 2018 8270R tractor (super condition, 6,245 hours) came in at $131,000.

“Now that’s tied for the highest auction price ever on an 8270R with over 5,000 hours,” Peterson says.

Mark the Calendar

Machinery Pete says there is a sale coming that “everyone has their eye on.”

The auction is set for Monday, April 29, in Berlin, Wisconsin. Wilkinson Auction and Reality is hosting the retirement sale for RNM Motors. An array of used trucks, tractors, and grain carts are among the highlights set to be be auctioned off three weeks from now.

“Its an outfit that’s been in business since 1967, owned by Richard and Karen Moriarty, I believe. And they have a beautiful line of equipment, including some amazing trucks,” Peterson says. “But three tractors. Oh, my goodness. A 1992 John Deere 4055 mechanical front, has 22 hours on it, 32 years old, 22 hours. Go to wilkinsonauctions.com.”
