This week’s Pete’s Pick emphasizes the importance of details. On July 27, an auction hosted by Zomer Company Realty and Auction in Lakefield, Minn., featured a John Deere 9670 STS with 2,546 hours that sold for $99,250. Zomer Company made sure to post the past nine years of annual inspections, as well as the $54,365 spent on them each year. This is the third-highest auction price ever on a 9670 STS with over 2,500 hours.

Machinery Pete explains this sale also showcases how used equipment in nice condition is going for a premium. Bigger price tags are a new normal for machines with high engine hours.
“People aren’t buying new and they haven’t been,” Machinery Pete says. “A couple of years ago we might have expected the [$99,250 price for the John Deere 9670 STS] to be for a lower-hour machine, but right now it’s all about finding the good stuff.”
As examples, the average auction prices this year versus last year are up:
- 12.3% for John Deere 8R 370s
- 4.7% on John Deere 8R 340s
- 1.7% on John Deere 8R 310s
- 1.2% on John Deere 8R 410s
WAVE AG DAY Unites Kentucky’s Four River Counties
The annual WAVE Ag Day is taking place on July 30 in Hickman County, Ky. Dr. Tony Brannon, WAVE Ag regional facilitator, says the joint effort by four river counties in Kentucky (Hickman, Fulton, Carlisle and Ballard) brings together ag industry leaders, producers and solution providers to push agriculture toward the future.
Agriculture is big business in the area, generating around $515 million of ag sales in the river county region, according to Dr. Brannon. The area has a crop base as well as livestock and contract poultry. Machinery Pete says the event does a good job of honoring the region’s agriculture history while looking forward. Meanwhile, Dr. Brannon emphasizes the importance of a united agricultural front with the neighboring counties.
“It’s a very good event to bring all of our region together – the only things that stop at the county lines here is the football and basketball rivalry. Agriculture doesn’t stop,” Dr. Brannon jokes.
