Missouri Farm Kid Leads SpaceX Mission

From a farm outside of Richland, Mo., to outer space, Michael Hopkins is fulfilling a dream: to travel to space. He was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2009 and one of four astronauts aboard the first full space launch partnering with a private company, SpaceX.

Hopkins and the other astronauts are in a capsule named Resilience. The capsule is attached to the Crew Dragon, a rocket built and operated by SpaceX.

The astronauts are tasked to remain at the International Space Station until spring. The launch was historic, as it kicks off what NASA hopes will be an ongoing series of crew rotations between the U.S. and the space station, giving the U.S. a direct line to space again.
