President Jimmy Carter’s Character, Commitment to Service Lauded

He was a farmer, governor, president and international peace maker, but many people will remember him most as a man who put honesty and kindness above partisan politics. The nation paused yesterday to remember and honor the nation’s 39th president.

President Joe Biden along with four former U.S. presidents and hundreds of mourners came together on Thursday at the Washington National Cathedral to pay respects to the country’s 39th president, Jimmy Carter.

Biden eulogized Carter, saying his life was the “story of a man who never let the tides of politics divert him from his mission to serve and shape the world.”

“The man had character,” Biden said.

Unexpected Rise To The Top
A Democrat, James Earl Carter Jr. served only one term as president of the U.S., from 1977 to 1981.

He ran for president in 1976, after serving as governor of Georgia. Considered a dark horse candidate, as he was not well known outside Georgia, he secured the Democratic nomination and selected Walter Mondale as his running mate. The pair went on to narrowly defeat the Repulican Party’s ticket of President Gerald Ford and Senator Bob Dole.

AgDay-TV shares how the country honored Carter’s contributions and legacy yesterday.
