During what’s being called a candid but constructive exchange, Ambassador Tai discussed the guiding principles of the Biden Administration’s trade policy and her ongoing review of the relationship.

Outstanding are the trade tariffs and company sanctions imposed under the last administration.Tai said she expected further discussion with Liu.

A statement from China’s Commerce Ministry described the call Wednesday as “candid, pragmatic and constructive.” It also said both sides had agreed to keep communicating.
