The Senate Ag Committee will hold a markup session on its farm bill proposal beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET Thursday, April 26.
The markup will also be streamed live on the Senate Agriculture Committee website at http://ag.senate.gov.
Committee Print: The text of the Committee Print of the 2012 Farm Bill is available to access and download on the Senate Agriculture Committee’s website at http://www.ag.senate.gov/issues/farm-bill. The Committee Print will be modified and amended throughout this week’s meeting, beginning with a manager’s package of consensus amendments offered by Chairwoman Stabenow and Ranking Member Roberts at the mark-up’s outset.
Efforts were taken throughout Wednesday to try to soothe some concerns about regional and crop equity concerns regarding the initial farm bill draft. Some changes have apparently been made, notably to address some concerns expressed by senators from North Dakota and Montana. It is unclear how the issues of southern rice growers will be addressed, if at all. Northern-tier state Ag Committee senators reportedly met with southern-state senators in an attempt to forge a coalition to garner significant changes.
