USDA: Rains Bring Additional Flooding in Argentina

Rains improve moisture for developing wheat in the FSU.

USDA’s Joint Ag Weather Facility has provided the following weekly weather/crop highlights:

  • EUROPE: Widespread Rain Benefits Winter Crops
    - Widespread rain benefits winter crop establishment from France and England into Poland.
    - Much-needed showers improve winter wheat prospects in the northern and central Balkans, while drought persists in the lower Danube River Valley.

  • MIDDLE EAST: Rain Promotes Turkish Winter Grains
    - Locally heavy showers boost soil moisture for winter grain planting and establishment in Turkey.

  • FSU: Rain Improves Moisture For Winter Wheat
    - Showers improve moisture for winter wheat in Ukraine and southern Russia.
    - Locally heavy rain favors winter crop establishment across central and northern portions of the region.
    - Russia’s spring wheat harvest is virtually complete.

  • SOUTH ASIA: Dry Weather Favors Summer Crop Harvesting
    - As the monsoon continues its withdrawal, dry weather promotes summer crop harvesting as well as winter wheat and rapeseed planting.

  • EAST ASIA: Freeze In Northeastern China
    - A season-ending freeze occurs in northeastern China as corn and soybean harvesting progresses.
    - Winter wheat and rapeseed planting is underway on the North China Plain and in the Yangtze Valley.

  • SOUTHEAST ASIA: Drier in Northern Thailand And The Philippines
    - Dry weather aids rice maturation in northern Thailand and the northern Philippines.

  • AUSTRALIA: Warm And Dry In The West, Showers In The South And East
    - Warm, dry weather hastens wheat, barley, and canola development in Western Australia.
    - Cool, wet weather helps maintain the yield potential of winter grains and oilseeds in southern and eastern Australia, while providing a welcome boost in topsoil moisture for summer crop planting.

  • SOUTH AMERICA: Rain Soaks Central Argentina; More Rain For Central Brazil
    - In central Argentina, locally heavy rain stalls summer crop planting and causes some additional flooding.
    - Rain returns to central Brazil, boosting moisture for newly planted soybeans.

  • MEXICO: Conditions Favor Maturing Summer Crops
    - Warmth and dryness aid maturing corn across the southern plateau. In addition, a lack of monsoon rainfall is slowing recharge of northern reservoirs.

  • SOUTH AFRICA: Showers Boost Topsoil Moisture For Summer Crop Germination
    - Beneficial rain overspreads eastern sections of the corn belt as well as major coastal sugarcane areas.
