House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson (D-MN) voiced his displeasure with the Republican version of the House farm bill on AgriTalk Monday. In his interview with AgriTalk Host Chip Flory, Peterson said “you can’t fix a bad bill,” and he will simply vote no without offering any amendments when the Agriculture Committee marks up the bill on Wednesday.
Peterson and committee Democrats are upset over work requirement provisions in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The dispute has driven a wedge between the parties on the usually bipartisan Ag Committee. “I’m not gonna trust one damn thing they say from now on…I’m done,” Peterson said of the committee Republicans led by chairman Mike Conaway (R-TX).
After Rep. Peterson, Chip caught up with another Peterson from Minnesota. Greg Peterson a.k.a Machinery Pete joined for his weekly segment. Greg gave his pick of the week and offered details on the used combine market, which he says remains strong with high prices. Also, he gave Chip some insight into an interesting new “heat map” developed for MachineryPete.com that tracks high selling John Deere 44-40’s by location.
