There have been a few of moments in my life when I encountered technology that clearly revolutionized my work. One was a simple guidance system, but before that was VisiCalc. Powered by a mighty Apple II computer and a 9" green screen, I immediately realized those new-fangled “cash-flow” documents my banker was suddenly promoting were not only possible but might even be useful.
Excel has taken spreadsheets to another universe, but some of us are still only using 10 of the 450 functions. Nick Horob at Harvest Profit compiled a 25-day email curriculum to raise that utility rate slightly.
I went through the course and added five new tools like @SUMIF, effectively doubling my toolkit. He also includes ready-made templates for common analyses, and covers Google Sheets, to which many of us are fleeing. Best of all, it was free — my favorite price point.
The actual video instruction is not flashy, but in these days of YouTube, loosey-goosey unscripted narration is perhaps a signal of authenticity. I was troubled he never used the term “argument” for function elements, which could hinder learning new functions using Excel Help.
Nonetheless, the focus of the explanations is perfect for farmers intimidated by the enormous @Library. Horob has told me the course will be available for free again. It’s too good to pass up.
