Understanding the difference between inhibitors and additives helps farmers put their nitrogen to work for them, says Farm Journal field agronomist Ken Ferrie in Episode 11 of Corn College TV Season 3.
“When we’re talking about nitrogen, we’re usually talking about inhibitors,” Ferrie says. “Additives are something that’s usually added to a fertility product to make it more efficient”
Just be sure to use the right product for the right end result. For example, inhibitors can either stop the process of nitrogen volatilization or stop the process of denitrification and leaching. Using the wrong product would be a mistake.
