Farmers share their planter size and the number of grain trucks or semis on their farm via the Farm Journal Pulse.
Before long planters will be rolling across the Corn Belt. Just how big are those planters? A recent Farm Journal Pulse asked: What size planter do you use?
Here are the results:
- 8-Row: 14%
- 12-Row: 31%
- 16-Row: 29%
- 24-Row: 20%
- Other: 6%
If farmers have multiple planters, they were asked to pick their largest.

An interesting side note is to compare the size of planters with age. In February 2012, a Farm Journal Pulse asked: How old is your primary planter?
Of the 1,600 farmers that responded, 13% said they had a brand-new planter, while 32% reported a planter that was two to five years old. Around 20% had planter that was six to ten years old, while the remaining 33% of respondents owned a planter more than a decade old.

Here are the results:
- 1: 17%
- 2: 24%
- 3: 19%
- 4: 10%
- 5 or more: 15%
- None: 15%
Of the more than 1,600 respondents, 24% reported having two grain trucks or semis, while 17% had one.
