According to the USDA, the lack of extreme heat in the Corn Belt helped boost the nation’s corn yield into record territory, 176.6 bushels per acre.

The average soybean yield came in at 49.1 bushels per acre, nearly three bushels less than 2016.

The wheat crop is also expected to continue shrinking. Planted winter wheat acres are experiencing a 1 percent decrease from 2017 levels. Roughly 32.6 million acres of winter wheat is planted, the second lowest wheat acreage on record.
