Tornadoes hit central Indiana Wednesday afternoon, flattening fields and damaging buildings. As of 5:50 pm EST, the Indianapolis office of the National Weather Service had issued four tornado warnings, and had declared a tornado watch for nearly half the state.

The National Weather Service out of Indianapolis began issuing warnings around 2:30 EST.

Kokomo, Indiana was especially hard hit, with reports of a Starbucks being destroyed and damage to vehicles. The Weather Channel says the twister touched down at 3:24pm. No injuries have been reported.

Field Damage

Even though crops were showing solid yields just a day earlier when the ProFarmer Midwest Crop Tour came through Indiana, flattened fields are sure to lower harvest yields.

The below image, shared by Shannon Family Farms, was taken near Mace, Indiana, shows flattened corn fields. Jonathan Shannon says he estimates 70 to 100 acres could be impacted.

In addition to crop damage, buildings were also destroyed.

Even as some people in western Indiana have begun cleaning up debris, warnings are still in effect for much of the state.
