Good Crop and Low Prices Still Anticipated

Here’s the advice Mark Gold of Top Third Ag Marketing gave farmers at 2013 Corn College in Coldwater, Mich. He spoke with Farm Journal Radio’s Pam Fretwell.

While parts of the country haven’t been so fortunate, the overwhelming trend for corn and soybeans is extremely positive, says Mark Gold, Top Third Ag Marketing.

“I can’t remember, in 40 years in agriculture, the last time we had cool weather during pollination,” Gold tells Farm Journal Radio’s Pam Fretwell from 2013 Corn College in Coldwater, Mich. “And we’ve got cool weather, good moisture around, so I think the vast majority of the country is looking at some pretty good yields.”

It also appears Brazil will have a bigger-than-anticipated corn crop, which might dampen the U.S. export market a bit.

“There’s still as much as $1 at risk out here in the corn market,” he says.
