Mother Nature Takes Another Small Bite Out of Crop Quality

Corn and soybean yield potential took another hit across the U.S. this past week, according to the USDA Crop Progress Report.

Corn and soybean quality took another small hit across the U.S. this past week, according to the Crop Progress Report released Monday afternoon.

Both crop saw a three-point decline in the good-to-excellent rating over the previous week.

As of June 26, the USDA report shows corn had a three-point decline in the good-to-excellent rating nationally over the previous week in 18 selected states – going from 70% to 67%.

Two weeks ago, the crop had a good-to-excellent rating nationally of 72%.

According to the Crop Progress Report corn conditions are currently:
• Very poor: 2%
• Poor: 6%
• Fair: 25%
• Good: 55%
• Excellent: 12%

Soybean condition ratings for the past week include:
• Very poor: 2%
• Poor: 6%
• Fair: 27%
• Good: 55%
• Excellent: 10%

The 65% in the good-to-excellent rating is three percentage points lower than last week’s 68%. By comparison, soybeans had a good-to-excellent rating of only 60% at this same time in 2021.
