Rain showers slowed harvest for many farmers last week, but they’re still on schedule with last year’s pace.
According to USDA’s crop progress report, 59% of corn and 76% of soybeans have been harvested so far. At the same point in 2022, corn harvest was at 59%, while soybeans were slightly ahead at 78%.
Last week’s rain showers resulted in flooded corn fields for this western Iowa farmer.

Luckily, windy conditions have benefited those in similar situations.

A grower in Minnesota didn’t experience quite as much of a slowdown but is anticipating more showers later in the week.

While this weather would’ve been more welcome during the summer’s drought, many farmers are still seeing reasonable yields.

Longer than I would have cared for but the above average yields made up for it. Now for some #corn 🌽! pic.twitter.com/ZeNUB5kL1g
States that have harvested the most corn acres include North Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. Louisiana and Mississippi have harvested the most soybeans – with South Dakota right behind them.
It was a big week for North Dakota – progressing from 27% to 45% completion in corn acres and from 66% to 85% completion in soybean acres. Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska also reported productive weeks.
Looking toward the coming week for harvest conditions, BAMWX is forecasting quite a few hurdles with multiple rain chances and even snow for some northern states.
