Harvest 2023 is coming to a slow but steady close, and many growers expect this to be their last week in the field.

According to USDA’s final crop progress report of the season, 96% of corn has been harvested — a 3% increase from last week. At this time last year, progress had reached 99%, though the five-year average is 95%.

All but four states — Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — are reporting at least 90% completion of corn acres.

The USDA also reported most states had between four to five days suitable for fieldwork last week, which growers took full advantage of.

And with the final acres in sight, the holidays aren’t slowing progress.

In fact, growers are bringing the holiday spirit to the field.

The week is off to a chilly start and might be tricky to navigate for those in the Midwest and Eastern regions of the country.
