Crop Progress Shows Iowa, Minnesota Farmers Nearly Finished Planting Corn

Farmers continue to plant the 2021 at a fast pace, but rains over the weekend and this week could start slowing progress. The latest USDA Crop Progress Report showed 80% of the corn crop is now planted, which is 12 points ahead of the five-year average. Farmers in Iowa and Minnesota are nearly finished with corn planting this year, with 94% and 95% complete. Illinois farmers have 86% of the corn crop already planted.

As for soybeans, 61% of the U.S. corn crop is in the ground, which is 24 points ahead of average. Minnestoa farmers are leading the planting pace, sitting at 88% complete. Iowa farmers have 83% of the soybean crop already in the ground.

The recent rains are aiding crop emergence with 41% of the corn crop now emerged. According to USDA, 20% of the nation’s soybean crop is popping out of the ground.
