With severe drought blanketing much of the western U.S. and late-season snowstorms smacking the Midwest, planting in many parts of the country have been stymied this week--and in some areas, those planters could remained parked for a few weeks longer.

But the latest USDA Crop Progress Report shows that so far, planting has fallen only slightly behind schedule. As of April 18, the U.S. corn crop was 4% planted, two points below the 5-year average, and 1% of the soybean crop was in the ground, just one point below the 5-year average.
