A new USDA report is posting rice harvest numbers, saying growers are halfway through the cut. Rice-leading Arkansas is about 20 points ahead of average.
Producers Rice Mill in Stuttgart, Ark. is busy taking in this year’s rice crop.
They report the rainfall in early August is having a slight impact on the crop quality this year. They aren’t having the devastating losses friends in the southern part of the state or Louisiana have experienced.
“The quality looked good,” said Jason Maddox of Producers Rice Mill. “The field yield, I think around 200 bushel per acre, is what most of them are saying they’re getting. The milling yield have not been so great. After the rain, the milling yields we’d seen dropped some.”
Despite these challenges, the rice crop is looking promising.
