I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Especially during sweltering days of summer. Thankfully, July marks the start of National Ice Cream Month and this year, National Ice Cream Day will take place on Sunday, July 16.

To kick off this year’s festivities, Scholaroo analyzed consumer tracking data of online shopping data to determine the increase in people’s appetite for ice cream. Here were some of their findings:

  • The average American consumes approximately 12 lb. of ice cream each year.
  • California is the largest ice cream consumer in the country with 4,263 ice cream parlors across the state.
  • 23 states chose chocolate as their favorite ice cream flavor.
