Snow favored eastern Nebraska, Iowa, southeastern Minnesota, Wisconsin and northern Michigan on Friday and Saturday, with rain showers favoring southern Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky on Saturday. Temperatures turned much colder across the central U.S. over the weekend after the record-breaking warmth seen later last week.
Temperatures dropped below 0°F (-18°C) in Nebraska, but fresh snowpack prevented any damage to the winter wheat crop. Another surge of warmth is expected across the southern Plains, Delta and Midwest today and tomorrow and mostly above-normal temperatures are expected through early next week.
Showers will favor the Delta today and will favor the Midwest tomorrow and Wednesday. Showers should improve soil moisture across the Delta and the southern Midwest, but more will still be needed to completely replenish soil moisture. Dry weather over the next 10 days will allow dryness to build in the central Plains wheat areas.
