Agronomic Coaches Share Corn College Lessons

In-the-field breakouts were made possible by the help of these coaches, who helped attendees head home for more bushels.

Four of the agronomic coaches from the Corn College Fundamentals event share the yield tips demonstrated during the hands-on and in-the-field breakout sessions.

Joe Schubert, Jason Kienast, Gary Cooper and Terry Finegan were part of the coaching team. Here are some examples of the knowledge shared:

In the soil density pits, coaches showed how the tillage tools are set to run can effect soil density, emergence, and ear count.

In the in-Field Diagnostics, farmers learned how to manage residue with the planter and properly set row cleaners to not pinch residue in the seed trench.

Also in the in-field-diagnostics, seed spacing was focused on to help farmers define double-drops, skips and misplaced seeds.

In the nitrogen management demonstration plot, farmers were coached how to identify how application timing and placement affects the plant’s appearance, structure and ear development.
