Basse: Nearby Focus on Stocks, Later on Acreage

In the short-term, the negative corn and soybean stocks numbers will pressure markets, says Dan Basse of AgResource in Chicago. “Acreage for both corn and beans came in below average trade estimates, but with anything near normal planting weather, the total acreage for the year ultimately could come in 2 to 4 million above USDA’s March projection, so the trade will discount these numbers somewhat.” All in all, Basse sees the reports as negative for old-crop and somewhat positive for new-crop.
