CVR Partners, LP (NYSE: UAN), a manufacturer of ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) solution, announced today that its fertilizer facility in Coffeyville, Kansas has resumed full operations. CVR had previously announced that it planned to shut down its fertilizer plant on July 27, 2013, to replace a damaged catalyst and to regain full production capacity. The repair was made as scheduled and the fertilizer plant was brought back online Saturday, Aug. 3.
Retail markets responded locally with strong declines in UAN32% and anhydrous during the report week. In Kansas, the retail price of anhydrous dropped from $749.21/ton to $669.52/ton and 32% fell $25.26 to $410.86/ton.
The CVR Partners nitrogen fertilizer plant is the only such operation in North America that uses a petroleum coke gasification process to make hydrogen, a key ingredient in its manufacturing process, and produces about 5 percent of total UAN demand in the United States. In 2012, Coffeyville Resources Nitrogen Fertilizers produced 124,600 tons of ammonia available for sale, and also produced 643,800 tons of UAN.
