Illinois farmers now have the opportunity to recycle their agrichemical containers for free. The Illinois Department of Agriculture has arranged for several collection sites to accept the containers.

After collection, the containers will be ground into small plastic chips to be used in shipping pallets, fence posts, drainage tubing, plastic lumber and other products.

Collection sites will only accept clean and dry high-density polyethylene, #2 plastic agrichemical containers. Caps, labels, booklets and foil seals should be removed before recycling.

Metal and household pesticide containers are not eligible to recycle with this program.

For a free brochure on the program, call the Illinois Department of Agriculture at 1-800-641-3934.
