Those who have been waiting for El Niño will have to wait a little longer. That’s according to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, which just released its monthly outlook for October. Recent atmospheric and oceanic conditions continue to indicate ENSO neutral conditions.
For the most part, the country is expected to see normal temperature ranges and amount of precipitation for October, with a few exceptions:
- An increased likelihood for above-normal temperatures for both the East Coast and the West Coast
- An increased likelihood for below-normal temperatures in portions of the Southwest, Central Rockies and Central High Plains
- An increased likelihood for above-normal precipitation in portions of the Southwest and upper Midwest
- An increased likelihood for below-normal precipitation in the Pacific Northwest
