Ford’s Ranger’s Big Return in Detroit

Coming off a 8-year hiatus, the Ford Ranger is now returning to the roadways.

Ford Motor will require most of its 32,000-strong U.S. salaried workforce to be vaccinated by Dec. 8. The second largest U.S. automaker said on Wednesday more than 84% of U.S. salaried employees already are vaccinated.

Coming off an eight-year hiatus, the Ford Ranger is now returning to the roadways.

The Ford Motor Company pulled the truck from the market in the U.S. and Canada in 2011, but kept selling the Ranger in Europe.

The Ranger was a popular truck from its debut in 1983 until sales started to slump in 2011, and Ford shifted its focus to oversized trucks and SUVs. Back by consumer demand, the 2019 Ford Ranger was unveiled earlier this week in Detroit at the North American Auto show.

“It’s a very different truck, a very different proposition, than what we had [in 2011],” said Todd Eckert of the Ford Truck Group. “Since then, we actually introduced globally the mid-size version of the Ranger.”

With this new Ranger, Eckert expects this will cater to the customer that needs a truck for weekend adventurers, and not daily work like a farm or worksite.
