The 2018 North American International Auto Show opened this week in Detroit. And full-size pickup trucks are taking center stage.
Chevy revealed its 2019 Silverado 1500 pickup, celebrating 100 years of trucks. The new model is 450 pounds lighter than previous models, but boasts more passenger and cargo space.
The bed of the truck is nearly seven inches wider than the last model and the tailgate can be lowered with a key fob.
Fiat Chrysler rolled out its 2019 Ram 1500, complete with lots of horsepower, towing capacity, and a 12-inch touchscreen display supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Ford also is unveiling the return of the Ranger, after production on the model stopped in 2011 for slow sales.
“It’s a very different truck, a very different proposition, than what we had then,” said Tod Eckert of the Ford Truck Group. “That segment was much more about compact—a little bit smaller. Since then, we introduced globally the mid-size version of the Ranger.”
Ford is also expected to roll out the Bronco in the days ahead.
