This week’s Pete’s Pick continues to highlight how farmers are buying “newer” used equipment due to a shortage of five- to 12-year-old machines. The Ritchie Bros. hosted an auction on June 30, in Medford, Minn., that recorded a couple record high prices:
- 2024 John Deere S780 combine with 476 hours sold for $414,000, the highest auction price on this model with more than 450 hours in more than two years.
- 2023 John Deere 332G skid steer with 987 hours sold for $41,000, the highest auction price on this model with more than 430 hours.
“The used combines, if they’re in good condition, have jumped up in June,” Machinery Pete says.
Another auction on June 30 by Schmid Auction in Moweaqua, Ill., featured equipment in the five- to 12-year-old sweet spot or a little older:
- 2013 John Deere S670 with 2,316 engine hours sold for $103,500, the second highest auction price this year. The average auction price this year is around $75,125.
- 2008 Kubota M108X tractor with a loader and 1,780 hours, sold for $45,200, a new record auction price in 12 years.

- 1971 Massey Ferguson 1150
- Case 2090 with only 4,300 hours. “The paint is so good you can see your reflection,” Kerr says.
