Normally it’s tractor auctions that catch Machinery Pete’s eye, but a recent truck sale has gained his attention. This week’s Pete’s Pick is a 1979 Ford F150 Indy 500 Pace Car with 1,017 miles that sold for $35,000. The Melvin & Marvin Balk Estate auction in Lawler, Iowa, hosted by Sweeney Auction Service, also featured International farm equipment. While online bidding wasn’t an option, there were several notable sales:
- 1982 IH 5288 with 2,414 hours sold for $39,000, the second-highest auction price for this model.
- 1981 IH 5088 with 1,553 hours sold for $42,500, the third-highest price on this model and around $500 shy of the all-time high.
- 1981 IH 3288 with 3,981 hours sold for $36,000, which is the record auction price.
- 1971 IH 1066 with 4,553 hours sold for $34,000.
- International Harvester 815 with 1,089 hours sold for $4,300.
- 1986 Honda Model Big Red 250 three-wheeler went for over $5,200.
Meanwhile, a sale on Aug. 8, in Tobias, Neb. by Zalesky Realty & Auction LLC also caught Machinery Pete’s attention. A Waterloo Boy sold for $60,500 as a part of the Kubicek collector auction.
Near Hastings, Minn. on Aug. 9, Houghton Auction Service hosted the Gene Smallidge farm retirement auction. Machinery Pete was there in person to see some strong sales take place:
- 1999 Case IH MX200 with 1,715 hours sold for $87,500.
- 1991 Case IH 7110 2WD with 4,839 hours sold for $50,000.
- 2009 Case IH 5088 combine with 824 sep. hours sold for $92,250.
- 2001 Chevy 2500HD pickup with 36,329 miles sold for $27,750.
Looking Ahead to Future Auctions
On Aug. 11, Machinery Pete is looking forward to an auction in Mulberry, Ind. Merit Auctions will be hosting the event for Drago Indiana where 11 heads will be up for sale:
- 2022 Honey Bee AFS240 40' draper
- Two 2021 Case IH 4412 12-row corn heads
- 2007 New Holland CR9060 combine with 2024 sep. hours
- Three sprayers, including a 2014 John Deere R4038 and 2009 Miller Nitro 4315 with 2,908 hours
- Three planters, including a 2020 Kinze 3600 ASD 16/31
- 2015 John Deere 350G excavator with 10,802 hours
- 2019 Wilson grain trailer
- 2022 Brandt 1320 XT grain cart
Machinery Pete is also putting a “big red circle” on Aug. 19 for an auction in Milford, Ill. Mauri Auction is having a big sale, including a pair of John Deere 6030 tractors that Machinery Pete describes as “about as nice as he’s ever seen anywhere.”
