Pete’s Pick of the Week: 2008 John Deere 7130 Clears $118,000

A recent Georgia retirement sale highlights how fierce competition for well-kept, pre-DEF tractors commands top dollar, transcending pre-pandemic geographic price gaps.

For Machinery Pete’s Pick of the Week, he highlights the Cason Creek Farms retirement auction on Oct. 10 in Louisville, Ga. by Rebel Auction Company. Machinery Pete says the sale had a couple of noticeable purchases:

  • 2008 John Deere 7130 Premium with 1,105 hours sold for $118,250, this is the highest auction price ever on the model with no loader by more than $15,000.
  • 2008 John Deere 7630 with 1,385 hours sold for $132,000.
  • 1987 John Deere 4650 with 4,811 hours sold for $58,500, which is only $2,000 off of the all-time record.
  • 2012 Case IH Magnum 315 with 886 hours sold for $187,000.

“This speaks to the tightness of the used equipment market. What people want is the really good conditioned stuff, in particular the pre-DEF stuff,” says Machinery Pete.

Prior to the pandemic, Machinery Pete explains there was an invisible pricing boundary running across the northern third of Missouri. Well-maintained used machinery north of that line reliably commanded a premium, while comparable equipment south of it generally brought softer bids. In the years since, however, those regional price gaps have largely evaporated. High-caliber equipment now commands top dollar anywhere in the country — and this Georgia sale serves as proof.
