The 5100 Series from Mahindra offers two models (45 hp and 55 hp) aiming to make a splash in the U.S. market. This is the first tractor series from the Indian headquartered Mahindra, which often boasts as the No. 1 tractor selling company globally, engineered and designed with a bulls’-eye focus on the needs and demands of North American rural lifestylers.

“We are in expansion mode,” says Viren Popli, Leader of Mahindra North America “We are expanding our production capacity, and we are expanding as you can see in the product lineup.”

In the U.S. Mahindra sells tractors from 20 hp to 70 hp, and Mahindra has sold tractors in the U.S. for 27 years.

The 5100 Series’ development included extensive customer testing. The team at Mahindra made more than 100 changes to the tractor along the way based on early customer feedback. Most of those changes involved the operator controls and improving the loader visibility.

The end product are two models (the 45 hp 5145 and the 55 hp 5155) that pack a lot of features into a utility tractor priced competitively. Almost 95% of the units will be outfitted with a Mahindra loader. And a customer can order a 5100 series with a loader and backhoe for around $51,000.

Geared with a full synchro mesh 12F/12R transmission, 5100 series tractors feature the hallmark of Mahindra tractors—its mCRD common rail diesel technology that doesn’t require a DPF or use of DEF.

Built as an open-station tractor, the 5100 series features a nearly flat floor. One story from the development is the engineering team using a size 13 boot to make sure pedal spacing and the floor of the tractor could accommodate users comfortably.

The 5100 Series also provides for a tight turn radius. The tractor has a tilt steering wheel as standard, which is not common in this class. The tractor is built with an all-steel hood and fenders.

Another design consideration that gives convenience to the user is the low-set fuel tank, which is positioned at the bottom of the platform, for easier refills and greater stability.

There is 1 rear and 1 mid/loader hydraulic outlet. And the tractor has a 540/540E PTO.

The tractors can be outfitted with either ag or industrial tires.

Both models come with a 5-year limited powertrain warranty up to 3,000 hours.

Options include: work light, roof, loader (with max lift height of 122” and lift capacity of 3100 lb.), backhoe (18” bucket), and more.

Mahindra serves the North American market with more than 500 dealers, of which about 430 are located in the U.S.
