Unlike the real-time location of Santa’s sleigh during his annual Christmas Eve flight, it’s no big secret that used equipment auctions have been smashing through glass ceilings left and right throughout 2024.
This week, Machinery Pete details the following noteworthy results from what sounds to have been a busy end to 2024:
- A 2014 New Holland TV6070 bi-directional tractor with only 185 hours went for a record price of $176,000. Machinery Pete says it is nearly $25K over the previous record auction price for that year/make/model. This tractor was previously owned by the City of Eureka, Kan., so it sounds like the fine citizens of Eureka picked up a solid return on the decade-old investment.
- A 2022 Brent 2596 grain cart on tracks set a new segment record of $170,000 at an auction in Dexter, Minn., two weeks ago. The previous highest price according to Machinery Pete data was a 2023 Unverferth 2020 that sold for $167,000 in October 2023.
- A 2008 John Deere 7930 tractor with only 131 hours sold for $190,000, the second-highest auction price on record for that model and only $1,000 from tying the record price.
Boxing Day Bonanza?
The British wisely made the day after Christmas a national holiday, but here in America, the used auction circuit rolls on.
On Thursday, Big Iron Auctions is helming an estate auction on behalf of Bruce Kuhlman in Sumner, Iowa. Machinery Pete says if you like Massey Fergusons, this might be the auction for you. There will be four low-hour Massey Ferguson tractor models on the block. Check out that auction, here.
