Another week has Machinery Pete highlighting the sale of a decade-plus-old four-wheel-drive tractor on the auction market.
The wave-making sale comes to us from online auctioneer BigIron Auctions. During its weekly online auction last week, a 2012 Versatile 435 four-wheel-drive tractor with just under 3,400 operating hours brought a massive $147,750 winning bid.
Machinery Pete says the sale confirms a trend he’s been seeing of late in the resale market: 10-plus-year-old four-wheel drives – whatever the condition, whatever the hours – are continuing to pull premium prices on the auction circuit.
Why is that?
Well, for one they don’t feature a ton of technology (i.e. that can fail and leave you stuck), and farmers can bring them into the farm shop and wrench on them without fancy expensive diagnostic equipment. Despite their advanced age – they continue to get the job done on the farm, without a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles. Don’t expect that to change anytime soon.
