During the company’s 2009 fourth quarter conference call, Harold Boyanovski, CNH President and CEO, confirmed that the equipment maker is choosing selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology as the method to meet interim Tier 4 standards.
As of Jan. 1, 2011, engines for off-road applications will have to meet the latest emissions regulation standard. When interim Tier interim goes into effect it will require a 90% reduction in particulate matter and a 45% reduction in nitrogen oxide.
Boyanovski said the company decided on using SCR to provide equipment owners and operators with improved fuel economy and an opportunity to improve operating costs.
SCR systems will be used on the higher horsepower machines for interim Tier 4 standards, and the segment of machines 50 hp and less will be outfitted with other solutions to meet emission standards.
