1940 John Deere A with 6 Disk Plow

Cover tractor of the month Fastline Mid-Atlantic Edition.

Owned and restored by Steve Willis, Shelby, NC.

The John Deere A tractor and 6 disk plow were purchased in 1040 by Lester Allen from C.J. Hamrick and Sons in Boiling Springs, NC. This tractor was the first on the farm and in the community. Before buying the tractor Lester tried out an 8N Ford but once he saw the A and plow work, there was no competition—the John Deere was the clear winner for him. The tractor then joined forces with 12 mules on a 300 acre farm.
This tractor has been in the family ever since. Lester gave the tractor to his son, Gene, who will one day give it to his son. C.J. Hamrick and Sons provided the parts to restore the tractor to its original condition 70 years later.
