When installing a master link in a roller chain, the closed end of the master link clip goes toward the direction the chain will be moving.

On a combine, most belts, pulleys, chains and sprockets turn in the same direction as the wheels on that side of the machine. That means things on the left side of the machine generally turn in a counter-clockwise direction, and things on the right side of the machine tend to turn in a clockwise direction.

The idler or tensioner on a chain or belt always runs against the “slack” side, not against the side on which actually transmits power between sprockets or pulleys.

Clean motor oil or grease fresh from a grease gun will clean grimy hands--but it takes a lot of shop rags or paper towels to wipe away the residue.

If you’re in a hurry to drain oil from a 10-gallon crankcase or reservoir into two 5-gallon buckets, put the first bucket under the draining oil and turn your back for 5 minutes.
