Texas is continuing to try and recover from an Arctic blast that caused the state’s power grid to buckle. Besides having no power, many people in the state are also going without water, as freezing temperatures knocked out water plants and burst pipes in homes.
The state’s governor is saying high demand and cold conditions froze gas pipes, and he adds that every source of power in the state has been compromised.
The loss of electricity is impacting the food supply chains. The state’s agriculture commissioner issued a red alert. We’ve heard some dairy operations have been forced to dump $8 million dollars worth of milk because the plants that process it don’t have power.
The state’s ag commissioner is also asking the governor to designate food producers and processors as critical infrastructure that must be provided gas and electricity.
