Consultant Sees Increase in South American Soybean Crop, Drop in Corn

Says corn acreage is down due to more competitive soybean prices.

South American crop consultant Dr. Michael Cordonnier expects Brazilian soybean acreage to be up 4.7% compared to last week, with Brazilian corn acreage expected to decline by around 6% from year-ago. He expects Argentine soybean acreage to up around 1 million hectares from last year, with corn acreage down around 8% from last year.

Below are Dr. Cordonnier’s South American crop estimates. He currently expects soybean production to increase by around 8.4% from last year and for corn production to be down around 9.8% from year-ago.
